PCOS is one of the most female endocrine hormonal disorder.PCOS can increase the risk for infertility, metabolic syndrome, endometrial cancer and depression. Over weight and obesity are common among adolescent girls and adult women with PCOS.Clinical presentation includes menstrual irregularities, obesity, facial hair growth, acne. In ayurveda vata and kapha dosha are vitiated and blocks artava vaha srothas which leads to artava kshaya and anartava. Sticky and cold nature of vitiated kapha affect pitta dosha which stands for digestive fire and thus affects the metabolism.

Yoga in PCOS

Regular practise of yoga promote relaxation of the mind and body and also reduce the symptoms of PCOS. Asanas such as Badrasana, Dhanurasana, Ushtrasana, Vajrasana, supta baddha konasana, shavasana plays key role in regular and healthy menstrual cycle.


  1. Use a low fat milk, high fiber diet that includes whole grains, legumes and sprouts.

  2. Increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

  3. Restrict intake of red meat, egg, deep fried food, sugary desserts, bread, pasthas.

Ayurvedic Treatments

PCOS treatments in ayurveda are done through proper panchakarma. Treatments like virechana, Nasya, Shirodhara and uttarbasti are very effective. Internal medicines along with diet and lifestyle modification can manage the condition.
